Centric's StopTech slotted brake rotors and Hawk DTC-30 pads
We're getting a jump on MoParts Monday, since it also ties into the status update for Lil Mamba, our SCCA Solo2 project car.
With 15,000 miles and just over two full seasons of autocross racing behind our OE brakes, they were actually still in pretty good condition, with no warping or unusual wear, thanks in part to our brake vent kit, installed very early in the mods history. Still, with our sticky Toyo Proxes R888R 245/45R16 tires, the stock brakes just couldn't quite take the squeeze like they could with the slimmer 215s we'd been running.
We opted for slotted rotors, since I've run them, race and street, for years on many applications. To go with them, we chose Hawk's DTC-30 pads, front and rear, for good, responsive braking, that can put up with our wide race tires and my propensity for late braking. While Hawk also has a more aggressive compound (DTC-60) available for the non-Brembo brakes, I didn't see a need to go to an unstreetable level with noise and dust, as these have a good, aggressive, bite.
Performing their break-in per instructions, my initial impression on these is good. We'll see how the wife likes them as she gives them some street time next week, and we'll be putting them to the true test at the beginning of May, at our first Divisional event of the year.
Installation was pretty straightforward as front and rear brakes go, so I didn't bother doing install pics or videos, just a couple of finished shots. You may notice I marked the date and mileage on the rotors and pads. It's a habit I got into putting date and mileage on oil filters years ago.
You can find these on our website, at www.deyemeracing.com
. We have them listed for the 2016+ Mazda MX-5 and '17-up Fiat 124, but we can get them for many other applications, too - just use the Parts Request / Price Match feature on our Products page, and we'll get them added for your application! And don't forget, we're a sponsor of the 2019 SCCA StL Solo2 series, and you can get 5% off your order on DeyemeRacing.com by entering STLSCCA in the Comments box during checkout!
